"In this collection, Olivier offers access to a sense of traditional Japan through his portraits, always with profound respect for the dignity of his subjects. More importantly, he gives the viewer something new. Working exclusively in black and white, he presents not only striking portraits but also a thoughtful use of environment and composition. The result is a beautifully modern body of work, grounded in one of Japan’s most enduring and visually rich traditions."
Ted Forbes (The Art of Photography) - excerpt from the book’s introduction.
