In Praise of Stillness
Stillness holds a revered place in Japanese Buddhism and art. It is integral to both spiritual and aesthetic experiences. In the Buddhist tradition, stillness is seen as a path toward enlightenment, achieved through meditation and contemplative reflection.

Portraits of Maiko
Maiko San are Geiko (Kyoto Geisha) in training, learning advanced skills in music, dance, conversation, and other traditional Japanese arts. This project documents a fast-disappearing facet of traditional Japanese culture. It is estimated that there are only about 1,000 geisha remaining in Japan today, from an estimated 80,000 a hundred years ago.

Marine Layer
In the summer of 2021, I decided to shift my focus away from my urban photography work, hoping to explore a different style of image-making. Using medium-format cameras, I began making meditative images of nature and still life in the San Francisco Bay area.

The Transitory Nature of Flowers
I have been experimenting for a couple of years with different formats and presentation styles for this flower still life project. I am now happy with the prints I am producing, so I have been printing the first editions and will continue to add work here as the series progresses.
